Chapter Chats

During the school year, this teen book club (for students in grades 9 through 12) meets in the Tiger Union once a month after school for an hour-long book discussion. Join the group this summer at the Library, read something new, and find out what Chapter Chat is all about!

Teen Library Council

The Council will continue to meet during the busy summer season to plan for next year’s programs for teens. Members are encouraged to attend when possible and new members are welcome to give the group a try! New members should fill out an application (available here, or at the Circulation or Adult Services desk) before attending their first meeting. It's never been a better time to join this enthusiastic group that knows that a library is so much more than books- check 'em out!

Summer Reading Programs for Teens (grades 7 - 12)

These programs promote the idea of building a better world through recycling, volunteering and kindness.

Book Box Transformation
Transform an old book and give it new life as a box where you can stash things away. Dress for the mess.

Better World = Better You: HPL Volunteer Event
Meet at the Second Harvest Food Bank on Baumhart Road in Lorain to lend a hand to help neighbors in need. Open to volunteers 9 years old and above (ages 9-12 accompanied by an adult), first time helpers need to complete a volunteer information sheet prior to the event. This sheet and all other information is available at any Library service desk.

Kindness Rocks Project

Throughout the summer, come to the Library to spread some random acts of kindness. Add a nice thought or saying to the front of a TLC prepared rock. These rocks will then be placed around the town for unsuspecting discoverers to find. Learn more at
